National Drowning Prevention Week: City of Ottawa Lifejacket Loaner Program

Did you know that The City of Ottawa offers a lifejacket loaner program at Britannia, Mooney's Bay, Petrie Island, and Westboro beaches? Beach-goers can now pick up a lifejacket in child, youth, and adult sizes during supervised beach time. Lifeguards are on duty from noon to 7 pm.

July 20 to July 26 is National Drowning Prevention Week run by the Lifesaving Society.

Here’s a few things to remember when around the water:

  • Keep children within arms reach when in the water

  • Wear a personal Floatation Device.

  • Always supervise kids at private pools and secure with self-latching gates and lock when not in use.

  • Watch your child not your phone

  • Swim with a buddy

  • Always swim when lifeguards are on duty and within designated swimming areas.

  • Learn to swim – The City of Ottawa offers swimming lessons for all ages and abilities.
